VS electronic ballasts have an automatic identification feature and safety shutdown for abnormal lamp operating conditions. This can include defective lamp electrodes or high ohm lamp stretches due to leaks in the glass tube.
The critical operating condition at the end of the service life of fluorescent lamps is also detected. The resulting rectification effect leads to a rise in the lamp burn voltage around the electrodes and therefore to an increase in temperature in this area. This process is caused by the loss of emitter material in the electrodes over the operating life. This becomes particularly significant for the so-called End-of-Life phenomenon when observing T5 and compact lamps, due to the small tube diameter.
