Plutarco Naranjo Museum – Smart Lighting with BLU2LIGHT - CIMSA
The Plutarco Naranjo Museum, located within the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Quito, Ecuador, houses over 2,100 archaeological pieces from the collection of the Ecuadorian scientist, physician, writer, and researcher Plutarco Naranjo Vargas (1921–2012).
During the museographic design, the goal was to create a didactic and immersive experience for visitors using a programmable lighting system. CIMSA proposed implementing the Blu2Light control system to achieve smart, adaptable, and efficient lighting.
Innovation and Efficiency
Luminaires with DALI control were installed for the museum's general and indirect lighting. Exhibition furniture was custom designed to highlight the archaeological pieces, using LED strips and adjustable spotlights. All luminaires are programmable and dimmable according to the design specifications, enabling visual accents and emphasis on key pieces.
Blu2Light XS motion sensors were incorporated, automatically activating lighting in each zone upon detecting visitors. This solution enhances energy efficiency and preserves the archaeological pieces by avoiding prolonged light exposure.
Dynamic and Adaptable Control
- General public: Control is automatic via presence sensors, activating only necessary areas.
- Guided tours and special events: The LinaTouch app allows individual control of each exhibition.
- University staff: Wireless EnOcean switches with preconfigured scenes for tasks like cleaning or maintenance, turning on general lighting at higher intensity while dimming or turning off exhibition lights.
