Blu2Light Control @ Master Chef Studio

The local version of MasterChef, the world’s largest cooking reality and game show, premiered on Saturday, July 13 2024, at 19:30 on S3 (formerly SABC 3). Primedia Studios has tasked Homebrew Films, the multiple-award-winning production company that produced the previous season of MasterChef South Africa for pay television, to lead the production of this exciting new fifth season on the public broadcaster. Retail giant Pick n Pay returns as the headline sponsor.

MasterChef showcases the passion and creativity of cooking by following a group of amateur chefs on their journey to become culinary champions. VS Africa implemented a Blu2Light lighting control system in the studio where MasterChef is recorded. The MasterChef South Africa studio in Cape Town recently upgraded its lighting with Blu2Light, offering advanced features like individual addressing of each luminaire for versatile control. The studio chose manual control with Blu2light wireless switches and the LiNA Touch App for precise lighting management, with all lighting supplied by LED Lighting SA, a partner and customer of B2L and the installation of the lighting done by Karebo Lighting!

The lighting control system in a movie studio requires a high level of precision and expertise. VS Africa and RDL installed the VS-Blu2Light system to meet the production team's specifications. The Chief Producer commented, "This is the best lighting control system I've had in my studios!"

The Products

The Blu2Light system was seamlessly integrated into the studio's existing setup, connecting various lighting fixtures like LED strips, downlights, and spotlights on Stucchi track to Blu2Light Connect ME devices for centralized control and monitoring. The manual control setup, featuring Blu2Light wireless switches with preprogrammed scenes, provides flexibility and convenience to studio staff, allowing them to adjust lighting according to specific filming needs. The LiNA Touch App further enhances lighting precision with smartphone or tablet control, enabling optimal lighting conditions for each filming scenario.

VS Africa provided B2L components, installation, programming, and on-site support, including CoBs (>CRI90-5000K), DALI drivers, and Stucchi DALI tracks. With every new project of this kind, VS Africa and RDL gain more valuable field experience. The challenge in this project included a very tight timeline, the required precision and switching time between different light scenes, and the necessity to complete most of the job during the night.
