Lighting and light management at Parc del Molinet in Santa Coloma de Gramanet

Located in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Parc del Molinet boasts a new intelligent lighting system focused on the safety and health of people, as well as respecting biodiversity to the maximum.

The project has been carried out in three areas of the park: the nature classroom area, the play area and the space under the pergola that connects one of the main entrances to the viewpoint area.

The most innovative and cutting-edge technology has been used, changing the emission spectrum of the luminaires, which minimizes the effects of artificial light on the circadian rhythm of its users and the species that inhabit this space.

When no one is present, the light is an accentuated orange color, which reduces the impact on biodiversity, and as soon as the sensor detects movement or occupation, the orange light becomes white, reproducing colors better, but always within a range of minimal impact on the circadian clock.

This brightness has two important benefits: it minimizes the effects of light on the immune cycle, via the retinal receptors, and it improves the perception of public space in terms of safety.

The luminaire is controlled by the Blu2Light control system and presence sensors, adjusting the intensity and colour of the light according to the use and occupation of the different spaces.

AMB and CICAT have installed a total of 26 luminaires in the busiest areas of the park.

This investment came from the fund to strengthen competitiveness managed by ACCIÓ (Generalitat de Catalunya). The material and human resources were provided by the manufacturers and companies in the sector involved:

  • Manufacture of special products for the project:Vossloh-Schwabe ibérica, Carandini, iGuzzini and Benito Novatilu.
  • Technical advice: Citelum.
  • Simulations of spectral light synthesis for health: Kumux.
  • Audit of products and installation: Asselum Laboratory.
  • Lighting design: Estudio Anoche Architectural Lighting.

Why Blu2Light as a street lighting control system?

It is a system based on a meshed Bluetooth wireless communication network, which avoids wiring control buses between the different luminaires in the park, simplifying the implementation of the control system.

The Blu2Light control system is ideal as it incorporates the latest technologies, which allow the control of luminaires with color temperature change and also incorporates a multi-layer security system to prevent any type of Bluetooth hacking.

The Blu2Light control system also allows authorized users to use an app to control the luminaires using emergency buttons, which increase the light flow of the luminaires to provide greater security for users in the event of an emergency.

Finally, the Blu2Light control system guarantees an excellent cost-benefit ratio as it is highly efficient and always provides the desired functionality.

Highlights of the installation

  • Automatic sequence of color temperature change of luminaires, depending on the detection of motion sensors installed in the park.
  • Remote control and monitoring through a control platform.
  • Personalized App, for authorized users in case of panic.
  • Sustainable and energy-efficient LEDs.
  • High efficiency system.

The products

To control the presence, 11 industrial Blu2Light sensors have been used, located in the different areas of the park and 8 NEMA Blu2Light N-ME nodes in the luminaires that do not have the sensor.

For control from the remote TELEASTRO platform of the company AFEISA, a Blu2Light Gateway has been used, located in the Parc del Molinet hut, located under the viewpoint, which converts the Blu2light data to Ethernet IP to be sent to the control platform.
