Capacitor types for magnetic lighting systems
Compensating capacitors are used to compensate for the inductive part of the current from the ballast and reduce the reactive power.
A distinction is made between 2 types:
Type A capacitors = self-healing capacitors without overpressure/interruption device in the event of a fault. This is also referred to as unsecured capacitors. They are suitable for a temperature range from -25/40°C to 85°C and have a service life of 30,000 hours.
Type B capacitors = self-healing capacitors with overpressure/interruption device in the event of a fault. This is also referred to as hermetically sealed, secured capacitors. They are suitable for a temperature range from -40°C to 100°C and have a service life of 50,000 hours.
