Lighting in the HBOD logistics center – networked via Blu2Light, reliable, and simple

In a newly built logistics center in Mulheim, Germany, an online service provider for international marketplaces, a modern lighting concept was implemented that relies entirely on motion and presence sensors. What makes it special is that the entire system is controlled via a Bluetooth mesh network. Over 400 Blu2Light Multisensor XS sensors and matching DALI power supplies were installed in the logistics center.

Setup via wireless mesh network

The usefulness of the wireless mesh approach became apparent during construction. Since no additional bus or network cabling was required for control, installation costs were significantly reduced. The luminaires only required a standardized power supply; everything else was controlled by the mesh network. The Setup was carried out using the Lina Connect app developed by Vossloh-Schwabe, which enables quick and structured configuration via QR code. All installed luminaires were automatically detected, grouped, and parameterized by the Blu2Light Multisensor XS. The DALI-compatible sensors support individual addressing and control of up to 64 DALI luminaires per sensor. Scenes, follow-up times, and other parameters could then be adjusted directly via the tablet without additional hardware.

Self-sufficient lighting for demanding logistics

During operation, the system requires little maintenance. The lighting reacts to movement in aisles, picking zones, and storage areas and regulates itself automatically. Nevertheless, manual intervention in the system is possible at any time, e.g., via separately installed switches. Since the system functions completely independently and does not require central control, it remains operational even if individual components are temporarily disturbed. The mesh principle ensures that signals always find the best available path. The combination of reduced cabling, efficient LED technology, and a well-thought-out concept has resulted in the successful implementation of a lighting system with long-term benefits.
